About the series

A safe space for early career Special Education teachers to connect and grow

SPARK, or Special Education Professional Advancement and Refinement of Knowledge, is an initiative of the Oklahoma State Personnel Development Grant (OK-SPDG IV). It is designed especially for early career Special Education teachers — those with 5 years or less of experience as a special education teacher — who want to grow their skills, build confidence, and connect with others in the field.

Through SPARK, educators receive support in implementing evidence-based practices for reading, math, behavior, and functional skills; meeting compliance expectations; and delivering specially designed instruction to students with various educational needs. OK-SPDG IV provides this support through multiple layers of coaching and professional development — from asynchronous courses and virtual workshops to in-person and virtual direct coaching through the SPARK initiative.

SPARK Communities of Practice are monthly virtual sessions that ignite collaboration, build confidence, and support continuous growth. Each session is a safe space to ask questions, share strategies, and learn from professionals who understand your day-to-day challenges. SPARK is your place to stay connected and informed.
